What is Hypnosis?
People experience hypnosis in different ways. You may have some mild amnesia of the session, occasionally feeling that you have drifted off into your own world or you may be fully aware of everything that is going on, and after the session state, "it was very relaxing, but I wasn't hypnotised". You may very well experience some physical effects such as feeling light, heavy, tingly, but above all you will feel very, very relaxed. Some experience a level of relaxation that they have never reached before. It is this state that enables the hypnotherapist to do effective work whether it be suggestion or analysis. Whilst in hypnosis the subconscious and the conscious minds work in harmony The hypnotist is able to speak directly to your subconscious enabling you to make positive changes, such as changing 'I can't' to 'I can'.
Most importantly it cannot make you do anything that you do not want to do.
What is suggestion?
Suggestion is an important tool for the hypnotherapist. Whilst in hypnosis the subconscious is able to take on board positive statements. How often have you consciously wanted to do something, and you fully intended to - but at the last minute a little voice or feeling came from nowhere and said"you're not doing that", you then made the inevitable excuse - and felt bad for it. Suggestion whilst in hypnosis can help you get over this, so that that little voice or feeling does not rear its ugly head.
This form of treatment is ideal for helping to cope with such things as examination fears, driving test nerves, smoking, nail biting, weight-control problems, stress, and so on. Usually, between two and four sessions are needed.
Smoking cessation is usually completed in one session and can also be effective via group sessions.
Weight control at The Southend Hypnotherapy Centre is primarily via group sessions of up to 10 people. This is to both reduce the outlay for the client and to create a long term support structure.
What is analysis?
During analysis, and whilst under hypnosis, you will be able to go in your mind to various events of your childhood, until you reach the significant point that was the instigator of your problem. This does not have to be a major life event, and you may not consciously even be aware of it - often, seemingly insignificant events that affect us as children can have lasting consequences. You will see these events very clearly and once re-examined from an adults perspective repressed emotions can be released, and symptoms relieved.
This is used for the more deep-rooted problems. The technique aims to find and remove the underlying original cause of such things as irrational fears, emotional problems, relationship difficulties, psychosexual problems, lack of confidence, moodiness, sleeping difficulties, stuttering/stammering, anxiety, inferiority complex, unhappiness, phobias, etc. and most other problems where there is a psychological factor at work.
The treatment period will normally be between six and twelve weekly sessions and will usually produce a complete and lasting release from the symptom(s). It is a totally private and individual, one-to-one form of therapy.
You may rest assured that only the therapy that is right for you will be used. This ensures that you will not be prone to a substitute symptom. (That is, the possibility of switching from, say, Agoraphobia, to its opposite, Claustrophobia.)
What is regression?
Regression is the ability of your mind to recall events from your past. Under hypnosis you will be able to go to relive many of those events.
Past Life Regression?
Past life regression can take you trough memories that do not appear to be your own.
Whether or not you believe that you are truly experiencing someone else's memories, it is a very interesting experience. More
How many sessions will I need?
That depends upon the problem. For suggestion work, great results can be achieved in as little as a couple of sessions, in fact quitting smoking can be effective in only one session.
For more complex problems that require analysis you may need up to 12 sessions. But rarely over this.
CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)
CBT is used to define and address inappropriate negative thoughts that have become part of the belief system. These negative thoughts automatically enter consciousness and created emotion, and although within consciousness, they are not recognised because they have become a part of normality. Once these thoughts are recognised and changed the emotional response will also change, giving control over emotion, where once the emotion occurred apparently without control. CBT is used both within and without hypnosis.
